The survey showed that 92.2 percent of 800 adults nationwide are in favor of over the counter drug sales due to convenience reasons. 3) A German court has rejected Apple Inc's request to impose a sales ban on Samsung tablet computer and its smart phone in the European country. The Munich Regional Court knocked down Apple's claim saying the technology was already on the market before the intellectual property had been filed for protection. 4) Microsoft's web browser Internet Explorer 6 and 7 will be updated automatically in six months starting February 13. Microsoft Korea said Internet Explorer 6 or 7 will be updated to Internet Explorer 8 and Internet Explorer 8 will be upgraded to Internet Explorer 9. 5) The Seoul Metropolitan Government will raise public transportation fares by 150 won later this month to make up for rising deficits from energy costs and transfer fee discounts. Officials said the price will be increased from 900 won to 1,050 won starting February 25 while freezing prices for students and children. 6) The health ministry has found no additional harmful substances in humidifier sterilizers which caused the mysterious lung disease that killed nine people last year. However, the ministry advised consumers not to use all types of humidifier sterilizers as their safety is yet to be tested. -- 4-2 SPORTS UPDATES Guest: Seung Jae "SJ" Lee (Host of Sports Weekend on tbs eFM) Interview: -- 1. KBL Henry: Quite a show day in the domestic sports world, but we have some domestic basketball news here. What's the latest? SJ: Now, just like the NBA is going through some rough times with so many of the games being played together, the KBL is going through some issues as well with a rule change that occurred before the start of the season. Before, you would be allowed to have 2 foreign players in each team, and but only one at a time. This year, you're only allowed to have one foreign player per team. Now this forces the foreign players to play a full 40 minutes without rest, and not only that, if they underperform, they would be released from the team without any time to adjust. And Charles Rhodes of Busan KT Sonicboom has been in the talks of getting released at the start of the season, then after he exploded, the talks died down. But this past week, the talks of his being released had surfaced again, only to find out, they're going to stick with him for the remainder of the season. Henry: There's a problem with this rule obviously right? Having only one foreigner per team? SJ: As for Charles Rhodes, when I got the chance to talk with him, he said that he's just doing his part to keep staying, but it's not fair that the foreigners have to be at constant fear of getting released. A lot of the players who joined the KBL as a foreigner this year were released very early in the season, and were never given time to adjust to the new league. That's why you have all these former KBLers returning to the league, like Aaron Haynes and Terrence Leather, and dominate, because they're already used to this league. Henry: Are there talks about the rule change? SJ: Well, according to some of the players in the league, who I shall not name, they're already looking into changing that rule of having only 1 foreigner per team. They said, as early as next season, they're going to bring back having 2 foreigners per team, which will give less burden to a lot of the expat players in the league. 2. Violence in Egypt Henry: We move onto the international football news. Some terrible news coming out of Egypt after a football match. Give us the details. SJ: Just in today, at least 74 people have been killed and hundreds injured after soccer fans rushed the field after the home team of Al-Masry defeated the top Egyptian team, Al-Ahly. According to the police, fans of the home team stampeded into the field as soon as the game finished, throwing bottles, rocks, and chairs to the opposing players and fans. Later, the home fans started a fire in the bleachers, and it was all mayhem from there. Many of the fans who were killed were either trampled to death or beaten, and the riot police could not hold back the large number of people. One player even stated that it was "like war", and it was the worst case of soccer violence in Egypt and the deadliest worldwide since 1996. Henry: After all this, what's next? SJ: So far people all over Cairo are protesting the government's lack of ability to control riots. Many bystanders were stating that some of the riot police weren't doing anything. But the bigger news is that some of the players have stated that they will no longer play soccer after what they saw. Al-Ahly's goalkeeper, Sharif Ikarami who was also injured due to this incident stated that some of his teammates have decided not to play soccer anymore in Egypt because of the fear of getting hurt or killed. Just a terrible incident in the world of sports. 3. Boxing Henry: Final news, we move onto boxing, something we haven't talked about in a long time. We've been looking forward to seeing Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight, but that's not happening. Instead, another big fight set to happen on May 5th, is that correct? SJ: That's right. Now for all the boxing fans out there, you know you wanted to see the Pacman - Mayweather fight, but that's not going to happen and you know it. Instead, Nevada's athletic commissioners granted Mayweather a conditional license for one fight before he goes to jail in June for domestic assault. So now, May 5th, Floyd Mayweather Jr. who's undefeated at 42-0, with 26 Kos, chose Miguel Cotto who's 36-2 with 29 Kos. It may not be a Pacquiao - Mayweather fight, but still, this fight is going to be a gem. Henry: What's the deal with the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight never happening? SJ: Apparently, Mayweather has been pushing for the fight constantly, but the Pacquiao camp isn't agreeing to it. They've been working on what would be the most lucrative fight in boxing history for the past 3 years or so, but never happened because something also happens. We were supposed to have a May 5th fight, but Pacquiao apparently didn't like the date. Now fans are starting to realize maybe it was Pacquaio who's been avoiding it, because Mayweather seems to want the fight bad. Instead, Nevada's athletic commissioners granted Mayweather a conditional license for one fight before he goes to jail in June for domestic assault. So now, May 5th, Floyd Mayweather Jr. who's undefeated at 42-0, with 26 Kos, chose Miguel Cotto who's 36-2 with 29 Kos. It may not be a Pacquiao - Mayweather fight, but still, this fight is going to be a gem. Henry: What's the deal with the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight never happening? SJ: Apparently, Mayweather has been pushing for the fight constantly, but the Pacquiao camp isn't agreeing to it.
